February’s assignment from my food photography challenge group was to share a diptych of before & after cooking vegetables. Apparently I’m a fruit lady because this was the hardest assignment for me! I went to the grocery store with the intent to buy vegetables specifically for this shoot 3 separate times before I finally hit my deadline and was FORCED to make my choice!
In a pinch, I went with my favorite sidedish combo: Roasted peppers, red onion, & pineapple. Perhaps I’m cheating a bit since there is a fruit involved, but 2 out of 3 ingredients are veggie, so there. You can check out the recipe and what I do with these beauties in my cooking section if you’re interested.
This was the first time I forced myself to follow the (very sound) advice from many fellow photographers and Use A Tripod. I found it enormously useful as I nudged around the display bit by bit but kept the overall composition and camera angle consistent. I can definitely see how this will come in handy in the future.
One thing that became very clear is I need to really work on my prop stash!! I need some better cutting boards and baskets/bowls. The scalloped bowl from the left photo is actually a random decoration taken from my hutch! It’s good to be resourceful I guess.
