One of my favorite things about barbecue is just how many easy variations you can make off classic recipes.

I love my tomato-based BBQ Crockpot chicken thighs but during the summer I love to incorporate more seasonal flavors like fresh and juicy peaches.

This easy sweet and spicy Crockpot BBQ peach chicken is made with a simple jar of peach preserves so you can actually enjoy it any time of year, no need to wait for peach season.

Why This is the Best Recipe

  • Hands Off Easy!: Just dump everything into the Crockpot and dinner is done.
  • Sweet and Tangy: The combination of vinegary BBQ sauce and sweet peach preserves makes the perfect sauce for spooning over the chicken.
  • Budget Friendly: Grab a family-sized package of chicken thighs when they go on sale and use the easy pantry staples to turn them into a kid-pleasing dinner on a budget.

Ingredients

The ingredients to make BBQ peach chicken is on the kitchen counter.

This easy chicken recipe uses a short list of budget-friendly ingredients for big flavor:

  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Thighs: You could substitute chicken breasts if you prefer but be sure to cut them in half so they cook more evenly.
  • BBQ Sauce: Any brand you love will work. I chose a tomato-based sweet & spicy sauce. A vinegar-based BBQ sauce would be a good choice, too.
  • Peach Preserves: I used a store bought jar for ease but if you have some homemade peach jam on hand, that works great, too.
  • Fried Chicken Seasoning: I love the ease of this delicious spice blend but you can see my notes in the recipe card for a DIY version.
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chicken Broth
  • Worcestershire Sauce

Season the Chicken

Place the chicken in a 4 quart slowcooker.

Sprinkle the seasonings over the top and toss the chicken to coat on all sides.

The raw chicken is sitting in the crockpot with spices on them.

Prep the Sauce

In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the BBQ sauce, peach preserves, chicken broth, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.

A liquid measuring cup filled with the BBQ peach sauce is sitting next to the crockpot of raw chicken.

Pour the sauce over the chicken and use a fork or a pair of tongs to gently nudge the chicken around so the sauce coats all the sides.

The raw chicken is coated in the peach glaze and is ready to be cooked.

Cooking Instructions

Cover the slowcooker and cook the chicken on LOW for 5 - 6 hours or on HIGH for 3 - 4 hours.

The chicken should be tender but not quite falling apart.

Break the chicken into large juicy chunks and toss them in the delicious sauce.

Make Ahead Tips

DIY Meal Kit: You can prep the peach BBQ sauce in advance. Store it in an airtight container next to the package of chicken for easy grab-and-cook prep the next morning.

Freeze Ahead: You can cook the chicken and then freeze it in meal prep containers for up to 6 months.

Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Simply reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Variations

Fruit Preserves: If you can't find peach jam, you could use apricot jam or orange marmalade for a similar flavor profile.

Spicy Chicken: For more heat, you can add more cayenne pepper or stir in diced jalapeños.

Serving Suggestions

A scoop of the BBQ peach chicken is on a white plate with a slice of fresh cornbread and scoop of vinegar coleslaw.

When I made this savory BBQ peach chicken, I served it as part of a very simple dinner with a wedge of cast iron cornbread and a scoop of vinegar slaw on the side.

You can easily turn it into a heartier meal with your favorite BBQ side dishes like baked mac and cheese, roasted mini potatoes, or crispy roasted sweet potatoes. This sweet Cajun fried corn would be quick and easy, too.

Need a pop of green? Add my easy air fryer green beans or roasted zucchini.

Ingredients

  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 teaspoons fried chicken seasoning see notes for substitute
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce I used a tomato-based mild BBQ sauce but anything you love will work
  • 1/2 cup peach preserves
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions
 Start Cooking

  • Place the chicken thighs in the bowl of a 4qt slowcooker. Season both sides of each piece with the fried chicken seasoning and cayenne pepper. It helps to toss the chicken with a fork as you sprinkle.
  • Mix together the barbecue sauce, peach preserves, chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce in a small measuring cup or bowl. Pour it over the chicken. Use your fork or a pair of tongs to nudge the chicken pieces so the sauce drizzles all between the pieces and underneath the chicken on the bottom.
  • Cover the Crockpot and cook for 3-4 hours on high, 5 - 6 on low. The chicken should be tender but still firm. Break it up into large chunks with a pair of tongs and serve with the juices drizzled over the top as desired.
