Baked cinnamon toast is a quick and budget-friendly breakfast pastry to surprise your friends and family with this weekend. This would be such a unique item to bring to a breakfast potluck or to serve for a holiday brunch.

A white platter is filled with cinnamon toast slices.

Cinnamon toast was always the thing my mom would make us on a busy morning when we were anxious about school. That buttery sweet treat was easy on a nervous tummy. There's a good reason it is a classic comfort food.

Have you ever considered serving this childhood classic as part of a special brunch? Imagine your next shower luncheon or Christmas breakfast with platters of cinnamon toast served up with steaming mugs of hot cocoa, tea and coffee.

What a delicious surprise for the grown-ups in the room who likely have not enjoyed this simple treat since they were little, too.

The best news is, this is so easy to make for a crowd. There's no need to make just one when you can prep an entire batch for the oven to bake all at once!

Why This is the Best Recipe

  • Scaled for a Crowd: Yes, you could make just one piece of cinnamon toast, but why not share it with the whole party?? Line them up and dish them out!
  • Easy Pantry Ingredients: The cinnamon sugar I used was actually leftover from my batch of homemade easy cruffins. You can keep it in a jar for cinnamon toast any time.
  • Awesome Crispy Texture: The broiler finishes the toast up beautifully.

Ingredients

The ingredients to make cinnamon toast are on the counter.

This is one breakfast item you'll likely not even have to run to the grocery store for! Everything is probably in your pantry right now:

  • Sliced Bread: I used a loaf of my homemade bread machine white bread to make this for my family. You could use whole wheat, sourdough, classic Italian bread, my cottage cheese bread, or even a brioche.
  • Butter: Be sure it is softened so it spreads easily.
  • Cinnamon & Sugar: I made the cinnamon sugar blend for my easy cruffins and had tons leftover. I kept it in a jar ready to use again.
  • Pinch of Salt: Optional

Prepare the Bread

It is very important to use softened butter so you can smoothly spread it from edge to edge on both sides of each slice of bread.

Butter is being spread over the bread with a knife.

I used a spoon to sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the top of the buttered bread.

You can spread it out using the back of a clean butter knife, the back of a spoon, or tilt the bread gently on a plate to let the sugar coat every little bit of the buttered surface.

The cinnamon sugar is being spread evenly over the buttered bread.

Line the prepared bread on a large baking sheet in a single layer. Do not let the bread overlap.

Baking Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Bake the sheet pans of bread for 8 - 10 minutes or until the butter has melted and the edges are starting to become golden brown.

Turn on the oven broiler. Broil the bread for just 1 minute or so. The sugar will get bubbling hot and caramelize.

Make Ahead Tips

The cinnamon toast is best served the day you made it but you can prep the cinnamon sugar mix in advance and be sure your butter is setting out so it softens.

With those two elements ready to go, the rest of the dish is super quick and easy to make.

Serving Suggestions

Slice the toast on the diagonal and arrange the toast points on a pretty platter for your buffet or serve it family style at the brunch table.

It is so delicious all by itself with a pot of tea or coffee. For an extra decadent serving make a batch of my mock clotted cream for spooning on top.

You could serve it alongside fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and veggies, or yogurt parfaits for an elegant breakfast.
