Remember this little fabric package? I finally got around to making the cute table runner I had in mind. In the process I learned that I really have to work on my fabric math. I had absolutely no idea how far this fabric would go. I thought maybe one runner if I was lucky. Turns out it made just a bit more than that . . .
I added a smidgen of Simple Abundance to round out the variety of patterns so I'm pretty sure that's what stretched the pile even further. I was inspired by Rachel's holiday table topper tutorial at the Moda Bake Shop and just omitted the borders for a more patchwork feel.
I love that green backing fabric. you can see it on the binding around the quilt but if I had planned my fabric a bit better I would have liked to incorporate it within the top as well.
Once I had the runner all laid out, it was obvious I had plenty of fabric leftover for a companion table topper for my kitchen table. This time I laid it out in a square form which will look nice on my round table:
As you can see, I haven't finished the quilting on this yet. I still wanted to share because I think it is fascinating how different the same project can feel--quilted vs. unquilted. Once I've got it done and in place, I'll share the final photo.
The best news is, I STILL have more fabric left over. You might have noticed the Etsy button in the next column over. There may not be anything there yet, but stay tuned. You just might see a cameo appearance by the fabric above. . .

I absolutely love this fabric. You are suckering me into being a Moda fan. And I love the pattern on their page. It is so interesting how different it is from yours, yet the basics of it are the same. I am tempted to make a holiday quilt using some of their material.
