I realize that May has been extremely photo-heavy in content. I want to promise you that the coming summer weeks are going to be filled with a broader mix of topics including gardening progress and tips, some new recipes I'm excited to share, and some kiddie crafts. I have a few more days of catching up to do on Photo Day and my Project 2011 but today I wanted to give you a break from all the photography stuff and switch gears for a minute.
This morning I read a fantastic post over at Flee Fly Flown about Colleen's attempts at a container garden in her apartment. My favorite part of her review of "Grow Great Grub" was the tip to grow other leafy vegetables in the same pot as a single fruiting vegetable (i.e. lettuce inside a tomato plant pot.)
It honestly was like being hit by a lightning bolt. The Peanut and I planted our garden over the weekend (a more detailed post with photos to come soon) but I have a few seed packets of things that I wasn't sure where to put them. I spent more than my fair share on soil and supplies this weekend and wasn't looking forward to yet another trip to the store for more pots. This tip is perfect! I just finished sowing some arugula and lettuce plants around the base of my 3 tomato plant pots. I can't wait to see how this works out!
I also have a sneaking suspicion our neighbors will be sharing in our salad bounty this summer if everything we've planted works out. I think we may have gone a bit. . . overboard.
