I guessed that this year would be more fun at Christmas but I had no idea just how much more fun it would be. I'm thinking that 2 is the magic age for Christmas. Everything is new and exciting and magical. I'm also guessing it will continue to get even better over the coming years, but I have loved every minute of this December so far. I have had to rethink every single tradition as I try to explain it for the first time to the peanut. So many details I have taken for granted for so many years are all bright and shiny again.
This is what a very first candy cane looks like:
Our Advent calendar is going along so well. In the end, I took reader suggestions and filled it with stickers instead of candy. The peanut takes each day's sticker and adds it to a special picture she is making for Santa. That was all her idea. So cute to watch that brain working.
The nativity scene has worked out just as I'd hoped. She is happy to tell you that the angels announce, "Don't be scared!" I've overheard her angel announcing just that to the peanut's friends Tigger and Bear.
This week she proudly asked Santa to bring her a Christmas tree. Not sure where that came from since ours has been up since the day after Thanksgiving.
And finally, my little tech-savvy peanut has figured out how to work mommy's iPod to get the Christmas Carols going in the living room. She loves to listen to "the Christmas tree song", which seems to be just about any tune that comes from the Christmas playlist.
I hope you can find a moment in the middle of this crazy season to sit back and smell the poinsettias. Appreciate things as they happen and try not to let outside distractions make you feel too stressed. What has been your favorite holiday moment so far? I'd love if you took a minute and shared it with me!
