When I was pregnant with my first baby, almost from the very beginning my family started referring to her as "the peanut". I hated saying "it" when we didn't know the gender and "the baby" sounded so formal (and perhaps too real).
We signed that year's Christmas card from each member of the family, including "the peanut" and without really intending to, the nickname spread and stuck. Even after my little girl was born and up to this day, my parents and I still refer to her as the peanut in conversations.
So, it was the sweet connection I have with that little name that led me to title this blog. In the last 3 years, I never stopped to consider what kind of nickname we'd give to another little peanut if one came along.
And now here I sit. I blame the pregnancy hormones for sure, but I can't handle the thought of handing down the nickname to the new peanut because that reminds me too much of my first baby. This new one deserves a name all its own. But knowing how things like this tend to "stick" longer than expected in my family, I'm feeling so much more pressure this time around.
Thank you so much for all the suggestions that have been coming in. Some of them have been so clever! I loved all the nut family variations but just can't connect to "pistachio" in the same way I did to "peanut". My favorite suggestion ended up being "little pea(nut)" or simply "little pea".
So, you're here to witness the official dubbing of peanut #2 as "little pea." And so it will be from here forward. That's my official proclamation.
Which makes me think you're due for a "small pumpkins" story soon. It might explain a lot. Or at least help you understand why I get caught up on these tiny details. For another time. . .

I love it, Tiffany 🙂
