When I first started thinking about finishing our bedroom makeover project, I took a look at the colors in the room I knew I couldn't change. Our existing bedding is a very calm mix of greens and blues:
Yes, those are paint names. But it was the best way I could find to share the color palette with you. I love the quilt that goes with our bedding but in general it is all just a little too calm and plain for us. I had no idea what to do to fix it.
I decided to search for "bedroom" on Pinterest just to see what came up. I also searched for "headboard" to get creative ideas on how to fix that problem. That's when I came across this photo:
I knew right away that orange is exactly the burst of energy we needed in the room. Our blues are not nearly so vibrant as that gorgeous turquoise table or bright blue headboard, but I knew there had to be an orange out there that would work.
Did you know that you can type in a color combo on Pinterest and get inspiration that way? I typed in "orange and blue" and started collecting photo after photo of inspiration for my "Make this house a home" board. It was finally this photo from Kristina Klarin that helped me pull things together:
I brought my iPhone into Home Depot, pulled up my Pinterest app, and showed my pin of this photo to the paint guy. He helped me find the perfect orange for our room: Marmalade Glaze by Behr.
Now keep in mind that colors look different on each monitor. As I lay these color palettes next to each other in this post, my paint palette doesn't look anything like my inspiration photos. But in person it is a different story altogether. The top two blues are actually the wall colors in our room right now.
Tomorrow I'll be sharing some progress photos of what we decided to do with this little bit of colorful inspiration. We're not finished with the room, not even close, but even the small changes we've made so far have really perked the place up.
