In honor of Mother's Day this week, I challenged a few of the Project 2011 participants to take a self portrait photo of themselves. I've seen lovely things done using a tripod and more skill than I have, but sometimes the more creative self-portraits never show the subject's face.
The photo above is a self portrait I took yesterday during my Day in the Life project. I took this early in the morning, I'm feeding Little Pea her morning bottle. She's dressed so we can run out the door in a few more minutes, I'm still in my sleep shirt--school mornings are crazy round here!
We settled into this feeding position way back in the early days. She's such a wriggly little thing, she likes to kick and flail and look around while eating, so I lay her against my chest looking out as though I'm her own personal reclining chair. I initially missed the ability to look into her face and bond while we fed in this position, but the added bonus is that her little fuzzy noggin is right there for my kisses while she relaxes with her bottle.
On doctor's orders we'll be giving that bottle up soon and I wanted to capture this moment between us. Trickier to do than you might think since I'm so close to the situation and had to try and back my camera up a bit to get our legs in the frame!
(And yes, that is blue nail polish on my toes. Story for another day!)
I won't be sharing my full project just yet but I will be sharing some sneak peeks in the coming days. I want to wait till I've completed both sets before I post. Till then, I hope that if you're participating in Photo Day 2011, that you'll consider adding in a self portrait to your project. Nice to see glimpses of YOU every now and then!
And on a very personal side note: Today is the one year anniversary of my pulmonary embolism. I'm so grateful to be here and able to share a self portrait with you on this date. Take that, blood clot. I'm moving on.
