And now I can sleep at night

While I was still waiting for Little Pea, I began a pair of blankets to be given to each of my girls to celebrate her arrival. I had every intention of presenting the blankets to them in the hospital or on the day we came home. Unfortunately, the project was just too much for my pregnant self to handle and I finally gave myself permission to put them off until I was feeling better.

Then within 48 hours of coming home from delivering Little Pea I found myself back in the hospital with a life-threatening complication. I'm completely relieved to say that I am just fine now, but facing my own mortality with a 5 day old infant and a 3 year old at home coupled with the raging postpartum hormones was just more than I could bear.

I fully admit I wasn't thinking very clearly but amidst all the emotions one of the things that caused me unbelievable grief was the fact that I hadn't finished the girls' blankets. I kept envisioning the sad half-completed pile of fabric and knew no one but me would know how I wanted them completed and which girl would receive which blanket.

Over the last 2 months I've had more than one night where falling back to sleep after a feeding became difficult to do because I'd lay awake worrying about the unfinished blankets. So you can imagine how relieved and excited I am to present this photo:

The girls' blankets are finally done. God bless that basting spray I discovered, there is no way I could have finished these blankets as quickly as I did without it. The Peanut's blanket is on the left, Little Pea's is on the right.

They are both so bright and happy. I love how different they are even though many of the colors repeat from one blanket to the other. Both blankets are bound in a yellow floral. I used somewhat adventurous (for me) colors for both backs--chocolate brown with aqua polka dots for the Peanut and bright orange for Little Pea.

I'm so excited to finally put these blankets into use and now I can finally get some peaceful sleep at night!

I'm also excited because this is my 299th post and I have a special surprise all planned to celebrate my 300th! Be sure to check back again tomorrow. There just might be a giveaway involved, who knows!
