One of the easiest appetizers to set out at a party is fresh salsa. Guests love to dunk chips into that fresh dip.

One of my favorite book club party hostesses once served this amazingly delicious fresh mango strawberry salsa with cinnamon pita chips. The bowl disappeared in a flash and everyone begged for the recipe.

It is one of the easiest fresh strawberry recipes to make with just a few easy ingredients.

Serve it as traditional chips and salsa or on top of a crispy bread crostini like bruschetta!

Why This is the Best Recipe

Don't you just love getting recipes from a friend? I always think of my friend Renee when I make this recipe. It is the best mango strawberry salsa because:

  1. Fresh Fruit: Make this when strawberries are in season and I'll teach you how to cut a fresh mango, it's not hard.
  2. Nice and Saucy: The brown sugar and orange juice in the dressing help the fruits to release their juices.
  3. Quick Prep: You'll have the entire recipe done in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Fresh mango, fresh strawberries, and the remaining ingredients to make the salsa are on the counter.

This simple fruit salsa is made with a very short list of ingredients:

  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Fresh Mango
  • Brown Sugar
  • Orange Juice
  • Strawberry Jam: I use our homemade strawberry freezer jam whenever I have it, but you can use whichever brand of prepared jam you prefer.

Chop the Mango

Wash and dry the mango.

Using a large chef knife, carefully slice the mango into thirds: each side just off from the center, leaving the flat middle piece like this:

The fresh mango has been sliced into thirds on a cutting board.

Then, score the fruit with the tip of your knife being careful to not slice all the way through the skin. It should look like this:

The fresh mango has been scored into a grid with the knife.

Finally, press the center of the mango up and out so that the scored fruit pops out from the skin.

From here, you can easily cut the cubes of fresh mango for the salsa away from the skin:

The fresh mango has been pressed outwards so the scored fruit pops up.

Place the chopped mango into a medium sized bowl.

Chop the Strawberries

Wash the strawberries and chop them into salsa-sized diced pieces.

Add them to the mixing bowl with the mango.

The chopped strawberries have been added to the mixing bowl.

Make the Dressing

This simple strawberry dressing is what makes this salsa so fantastic.

Not only does it slightly sweeten the mix, but it also helps the juices from the fruit get more saucy and scoopable.

Add the brown sugar, orange juice, and strawberry jam to a bowl.

The jar of strawberry jam is next to the bowl filled with orange juice.

Whisk them together and pour over the salsa.

The finished salsa has just been stirred together in the mixing bowl.

Make Ahead Tips

You can make this recipe a few hours in advance, but be sure to keep it stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

The strawberries will begin to lose their texture once the salsa sits for longer than 6 hours so it is best to prepare in the morning before your party.

Serving Suggestions

This fresh mango strawberry salsa tastes wonderful whether it is served at room temperature or cold straight from the fridge.

Serve it in a large bowl with crispy cinnamon pita chips for dunking.

If you want to use it more as an appetizer, you could serve it on a snack board alongside some softened goat cheese for spreading over homemade crostini.
